Pyrographic art, the art of using a heated tip or wire to burn or scorch designs onto natural materials such as wood or leather.  Burning is the art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks. Pyrography means 'writing with fire' and can be done by means of a modern solid-point tool (similar to a soldering iron) or hot wire tool, or a more basic traditional method using a metal implement heated in a fire.

Beach or field art

When creating Beach Art
A design is chosen, and then drawn on graph paper. It can then be scaled up to the size for the beach.
On the beach. Using lines that has been cut to length using the scaled drawing, set out the basic shape for the art work.
Then rake the sand following guide lines.
As long as you know where you are on the drawing, you should know where you are in the design on the beach.

Field Art
Setting up the shape for field art work entails marking out the area with posts and white carrier bags, and then retiring to a suitable view point a considerable distance away to check the pattern and see if any of the markers needed to be moved.
Then it was back up the hill again where the outline in strung out in baler twine, checked again. Then it was a matter of getting the mower out and cutting out the design in the grass.
The design will be there for a week or two, or if the design is mowed regularly it could be there for as long as it was mowed.
"The beauty of doing something like this on a beach or on a field on a hillside is that you are not doing any damage or anything like that. You are not painting or doing any digging up, it's very environmentally friendly."
